Into the Woods, Allo Sherbrooke and Happy Easter!

Well it has been an interesting few weeks. Venturing from one part of town to the other, I started by catching the closing show of ``Into the Woods`` on March 26th at the Hudson Village Theatre. I really do love going back and seeing the productions by the Hudson Music Club as it brings back some great memories. It`s already been 4 years since the production of Oklahoma and yet I still feel privileged having met and worked with so many great artists. John Wilson, an all around great guy and friend who still gives a great performance every time I see him on stage and Dan Wheeler whom I have seen in numerous amount of productions just seems to get better each time! Each time I see Gail Marchand perform she still makes me laugh and those costumes, absolutely stunning! A huge congratulations to everyone in the show as it was really well produced and to a few of the artists I had never heard or seen, awesome job! Looking forward to next year`s production.

As much as enjoyed watching a show I can`t say I felt the same way about performing in one..lol. I headed to Sherbrooke last Sunday to perform along Jacques Valley as he was celebrating his birthday and invited me to join him on stage. It had been well over a year since I had performed and I was really nervous doing a show that I would be on stage straight for 40 minutes. I was disappointed with myself as vocally I should have been better prepared but it was nice to see some familiar faces and receive some appreciation by those that did enjoy the show. I was also angry at myself for not owning my weight. If you don`t know, in the last few weeks I have been trying to slowly get back into shape and instead of just accepting that fact, I chose to try and hide it. I wore a large top trying to hide the fat and instead it made me look like I was 6 months pregnant. We live and learn and next time I will know better and hopefully in time, working on my flaws, it won`t be an issue for me. It was nice performing along side Jacques as I think he has evolved into a great entertainer and hopefully one day in the future we will get to perform side by side once again.

It`s 2017, Kinky Boots and Change

Well it is finally 2017! I`m usually a positive person and I try really hard to be positive for others. Normally a New Year does not change that but 2016 was a harsh one and I have to say, I`m glad it is over. I do not believe that because it`s a New Year that all my problems will just suddenly disappear and now everything is rosy but I`m glad that the anguish has dimmed and I can feel somewhat at peace, I am ready to take on new challenges. 

So I got to start the year by enjoying what I consider one of the best musicals I have seen in a while. Although I am a fan of musical theatre I would not consider myself enveloped in it. I have the up most respect for traditional shows but I am someone that loves to see live shows that are focused on singing and dancing, comedy, stage, and costumes, I love upbeat charismatic shows. Kinky Boots is as charismatic as is comes. It reminded me of Cindy Lauper and how I saw her in the 80`s, the wild girl with the eccentric voice, bright red hair with a funny and charming personality. Although Cindy Lauper was not in the show, she wrote the music and lyrics and it reminded me how different and creative she was, she is still pushing the limits and I really like that about her. I`m really glad that she won a Tony award for the show, it really was fantastic. Not your typical show for viewers that do not know what drag queens can do but I can guarantee you will be amazed by the talent, the voices, the stage, the costumes and the upbeat dance. I`m still in awe of the fact that most of the men looked better than most women I know and that they could do a full show in those boots! If it does come back to Montreal, I do recommend seeing it as it`s a fun show even if you are not a fan of musical theatre. All in all, a wonderful time with friends with laughter, entertainment and with a twist of eccentric and charm. Great night!

 

I did finally finish by biography on my YouTube channel and I really think that it helped me to move on. It kept me occupied and gave me a chance to go back in time and reminded me of all the hard work I had put in over the years. I got to relive memories, remind myself of all the great people I worked along side and gave me an opportunity to acknowledge those that made a significant difference in my artistic career. It was a little difficult summing up your entire career in 7 episodes of 10 to 15 minutes as I have done so much more but it definitely sets a tone to some of my accomplishments.

 

I really have no idea what I will do this year, I have no upcoming projects and I am solely focusing on change. I am hoping 2017 will be filed with creativity and new adventures and I want to take the time to hopefully get back to a healthy lifestyle with a positive mind set. Don`t Blame it on the Stork

It`s amazing when you take the time to learn about an artist can you only then admire what they have managed to accomplish. There are some very talented and dedicated performers taking part in this production.  Everyone deserves an enjoyable night out and this is a show you don`t want to miss.  Help support local talent!

Presented by Leonardo da Vinci Centre and Pellegrini Productions, the theatrical comedy, Don`t Blame it on the Stork will be at the Leonardo de Vinci Centre, Mirella and Lino Saputo Theatre at 8370 Boul. Lacordaire in St. Leonard from September 15th to October 11, 2015 (Free parking).

The director is Antonio DiVerdis, Tony Green to some. He is a long standing veteran of the music industry as a songwriter and producer for artists including France Joli, Freddie James, Luba, Beau Geste and Michelle Sweeney, his records reached gold and platinum status followed by his induction into the Canadian Dance Hall of Fame. Having written, directed and produced the award-winning feature film, South of the Moon, he is a multi-disciplined artist, entrepreneur and highly-regarded filmmaker. This is his first theatrical direction adding to his career of directing film, television, live musical performances and music videos.

Tony Calabretta, the playwright, whom also plays Lou in the comedy is best known for the hit comedy Damn Those Wedding Bells which played to sold out shows at both the Centaur Theatre and the Segal Center. This comedy about love, lies and families ties focuses on newlyweds Carmie (played by Nadia Verruci) and Derrick (played by Shawn Campbell) and the emotional strain from meddling parents and the trials and tribulations of a typical Montreal-Italian family when a very pregnant daughter and her Anglo husband move into the top floor of the in-law’s duplex.

For playwright Tony Calabretta, the challenge was to render some very serious situations funny so all audience members can relate, regardless of age or ethnicity, "I love putting regular people in extraordinary situations and see how they react, all the while finding the comedy. The more conflict I can give my characters, the better. Among the many issues that the extended family deals with however, it was crucial that the play also promote the importance of family values."

Also featuring is Guido Cocomello who has been one of my favorite comics for some time, Veronica Mellis, Eleanor Noble and Dino Tavarone.

ZooFest Montreal 2015

ZooFest Montreal runs from July 9th to July 31st and is part of the Just For Laughs Festival.  There are English and French shows in different places in the city so visit there website at www.zoofest.com for tickets as well as for details. Definitely some really great talent to see. Being a lover of stand up comedy, I did get the chance to get to know a few. As there is so much going on in Montreal at this time, it`s a little hard to keep up. Below are a few suggestions if you are looking to get out one night for some laughter and fun and spend sometime with local Montreal Comedians.

I`ve seen Guido Cocomello a few times throughout the years. From his single years doing stand up to the coming of his new show about parenting. A talented comedian, actor and performer, he is definitely worth your time. Playing at Katacombes, 1635 St-Laurent Blvd from July 9th to the 12th. Along side David Pryde, Ryan Wilner, Eddy King, Rodney Ramsey and Derek Seguin, they share their parenting experiences as not only dads but a comedians. The ``how to guide`` of parenting, the hardships and all the fuss and responsibilities with a twist of laughter on coping with it all. A real eye opener for the single people! For more than five years Francois Tousignant has been practising stand up in both English and French. I remember his adorable accent and his clear cut way of expressing himself. Having seen him on Gala Juste Pour Rire in French, he made a lasting impression with his quick wit and humor about certain facts about himself, his life and his surroundings living in Quebec. The French show ``Le Show du Roast`` will being playing at L`Agora de L`Uqam, 175 Avenue President on Jul 16th and 17th, the 21st and the 26th. Tranna Wintour just recently finished performing at the Wiggle Room for the Fringe Festival in June and will be hitting the stage at Katacombes on July 9th, 10th and 18th. She was named one the top 12 shows to see by the Gazette and has been recognised as an upcoming star in her own right. Having recently interviewed her , she is spiritual, flamboyant and pretty friggin hilarious. Don`t miss her in the show ```My First Time`` along side some great comedians hosted by 3-time Zoofest veteran Darren Henwood. Free Museum Day in the Old Port of Montreal

Sunday May 24th, albeit starting off as a rather chilly day turned out to be a beautiful day in the Old Port of Montreal. 

Free Museum Day http://museesmontreal.org/en incorporated 34 museums that were open free to the public for one day.  I think the idea is ingenious.  Having lived my entire life in and around the Montreal area, what is more rewarding than getting an education of the history in which I grew up.  If you know how much museums cost, which in turn is needed to maintain them, then you are aware of how much you saved on such an educational day.  The lines are long, the wait is pretty hefty but I have to congratulate the parents that took advantage of the day. 

In the old port, there were 8 museums open to the public.

One of my favorites small museums was the Centre D`Histoire de Montréal .  As I took Québec history in school, the time period that fascinated me the most was Montreal in the 1940`s and 1960`s.  Probably due to my dancing and singing roots, visualizing Montreal as a mini Las Vegas was not only exciting it reminded me that most of of the people I learned from are those that were born and lived through these exciting times.  Everything was being run by the mobs, there were brothels (mostly run by women), strippers, MC`s, dancers, singers, shows all night long with a great supply of old whiskey and wine right off the boats. I think I should have been born in that era (lol). A time where anyone could have a great time.  The exhibition ``Scandale! Vice, crime et moralité à Montréal, 1940-1960``  runs until October 2015 and is part of the permanent exhibition about the history of Quebec from 1640`s until today. Along side, I got to visit the DHC/ART Fondation pour L`Art Contemporain.  They had the exhibition of Yinko Shonibare MBE Collection ``Pièces de Résistance``.  Contemporary art in opinion is very complex.  We look at the art and decide how it relates to our experiences and then try to interpret what the artist may be thinking.  Most of the time, there is no clear connection.  Only when you truly take the time to learn about the artist can you feel a connection to the full masterpiece of the works they create.  He was born in England, London with a Nigerian heritage.  You can learn all about him at http://www.yinkashonibarembe.com/ . Although recognised for his great art he should be a role model for those that think their physical disabilities limit their potential. A great idea to promote Museums in Montreal and the Arts. A great free day of learning history, nature, culture and/or the changes, the differences and the history that Montréal has sustained.

I will try and get back this summer.  I saw so much talent as well as some really creative stuff I may want to try that exploring the Old Port was like being on a one day vacation.  The sangria was great as well;)  (All photos featured are part of the exhibition``Scandale! Support Community Theatre - Thank you for the Music - A Tribute to ABBA

I remember growing up, every once or twice a week we would go to the Community Center. This place as a young child was an adventure at all times. Parents, children and grand-parents would take part in dances, games, Halloween and Christmas parties etc., a real sense of community. At the opening night at the Hudson Theatre for "Thank you for the music, A Tribute to ABBA", I once again felt that sense of community. If you have ever done any community theatre, you not only understand the companionship off stage but you can see it clearly on stage. To watch young Catherine Potter (only 14 years old) perform along side such a diverse and talented cast and to watch her perform with such love and devotion with such a beautiful voice, is having a passion for musical theatre.

I think Gail Marchand outdid herself this year with the spectacular costumes, they really are something to see. As usual, her comedic funny side always stands out as well as her passion for performance. On a funny note, the story tellers, Zack (James Milvain) and Zee (John Wilson) were not only informative about the group ABBA (honestly, there were many facts I really didn`t know about them), their quick wit humor and sarcasm brought laughter to the crowd. Peter Giser will definitely bring you a few chuckles with his charismatic outlandish character and charm. Some fantastic vocals by Elizabeth Machado Viera, Rachael Crux, Bertha Bisanti as well as Alan Switzer but all the cast did a fabulous job with great help by the musical director Sheila Engel, Katz. A shot out to Dan Wheeler who looks great, performed and showed awesome diversity. Some of my favorites of the evening included I Know Him So Well, Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen and Voulez-Vous but you will find something creative and intriguing about all the performances.

A big applaud to the set designer, Jean Claude Olivier and lighting crew, it set just the right ambiance and realism. The choreographer Philippe Gobeille with help from dance captain, Kim Beaver brought originality and diversity to the 70's stream of disco and jazz. Raise Awareness on Mental Health through laughter and music

Based on the Canadian Mental Health Association, mental illness affects all of us at some time or another through a family member, friend or acquaintance. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in both men and women from adolescences to middle age. It affects people of all ages, cultures, educational and income levels. It can be treated effectively but with the stigma and discrimination attached to mental illnesses, most to do not seek help and/or treatment. On Sunday January 25, at the Roxbury Club, 1432 Crescent, Laugh and Fall productions will present Laugh your Blues Away. Join the comedians and singers and help spread awareness on mental health through laughter and music. Proceeds will be given to the Montreal General Hospital.

Heavy T aka Tony Riccio is a loved and respected comic, host and promoter from the St-Leonard district. He is an all around great guy with an upbeat quick wit humor. He has performed in and around the Montreal and Ottawa area in numerous venues such as Comedy Night at Melrose, Yuks Yuks and Bad Fellas of Comedy. He has been interviewed on WOP Talk TV and CJAD and has organized numerous events and fundraisers going out of his way to help support local talent. 

Produced by Patrick Hannus and hosted by Heavy T, the show will include out of town comedians Pat MacDonald, Faisal Butt, Michael Harrison, Jeff Elliott and from Montreal, Neil Jenna and Gino Durante.

Gino is a graduate of the Dawson College Theatre Program and honed his skills doing improv, sketch comedy as well as performing in Classical, Shakespearean and Contemporary plays. Winner of the 2013 Montreal Comedy Competition for best comic. He has appeared at the Montreal Zoofest Festival in the Franglos show. Gino performs regularly at all the local comedy clubs including Comedy Nest and Yuks Yuks. One of the fastest rising Bilingual comics in the city.

At the Centaur Theatre - Johhny Legdick A Rock Opera

For centuries people have been fascinated by outcasts; the freaks. The ones that struggle to fit in when the world shuns them as crazy, abnormal or different. They suffer exploitation and shame, feeling nothing but desperate to live a normal life filled with hope, love and desire. Welcome to the world of Johnny Legdick. This is a fairy tale romance but not quite like you have seen before.

As suggested by the name, born with a ``third`` leg, Johnny (played by Colin MacDonald) finds himself whisked into a circus world filled with freaks that are exploited by Suckadacocka Lickadagravy (played by Tadzeo Horner-Chbib). In the midst, he falls in love with Hannah Handvag whom is also creatively deformed (played by Arielle Palik) and they fight the evil along side their friends and live happily ever after. A playful adult Cinderella story with a freakish side.

As part of the Wildside Festival at the Centaur Theatre, this Rock Opera is filled with wit, quick tongue and humor. With a live band (The Jem) costumes and some very talented singers, you come to discover the world of a horse man with no pants, a disturbed clown and a crazy lady that has a thing for bananas. (I laughed so hard sometimes, I snorted out loud.)

Although very much worth the price, it is only an hour long. It would be nice to see the production gain exposure and funds to create a longer and more lavish show. Welcome Summer with the Stars

I had the opportunity yesterday to sing with some amazing talent at the restaurant Le Tournedos. Thank you Tony for introducing me to Rosie Costa whom is a kind, generous and a warm hearted person.  The gift was beautiful.  (Visit the ERBN Crystal Jewellery ad to see for yourself).  I had a really great time, the atmosphere was energetic and the crowd was fantastic.  A big thanks to the other artists; Aldo Villani, Tony Pucci, Febo Di Genova, Romena Olimpo, Anthony Di Giorgio and Vincent Tomanelli. (You can click on their names to find them on Facebook).  The night was a great success because of the great talent. I made some new friends and had a lot of fun.   To my friends that were there to support me, I don`t know what I would do without you. You guys are amazing. It had been a while since I had sang a dinner show and I was a little nervous but the feeling hasn`t changed.  I love singing and when you know that people enjoyed themselves and the night was entertaining, it makes it all worth while. I hope we get the chance to meet again.

Strangers in the Night9 – June 15, 2013

I am very excited to be starting the summer season heading to Pointe-Claire for the charity gourmet gala, Strangers in the Night9.  The Fairview Center parking lot will transform into an extravagant virtual hall on Saturday, June 15, 2013 to raise money for the Starlight Foundation.

If you did not know, the Starlight Foundation provides services to over 21, 000 children (5000 in Quebec) each month with serious, chronic or life threatening illnesses.  By granting wishes, providing state-of-the-art Fun Centers for audiovisual entertainment in pediatric hospitals, as well as the Hospital Happenings program offering great parties, shows, activity kits and crafts to young patients, the foundation enhances the lives of countless children as well as their families.

I love food (lol) - (hence the need for ballet classes), so I am very looking forward in trying some of the complimentary delicious food from some of the best restaurants in and around the Montreal area, over 55 restaurants for me to sample, it`s like I died and went to food heaven (lol).

All for a great cause, the tickets are $200.00 for individuals or a table of ten for $1800.00, a little pricey but well worth it as it include delicious food, open bar from 6:00 to 11:00 and entertainment (VIP tickets are available, visit the website).  If it is a little over your budget, general admission tickets are available at $25.00 to enjoy the entertainment.  There will be a featured performance by Kool and the Gang playing some of their greatest hits like Celebration and Ladies night as well as many other live performances; Rhapsody Orchestra , Powerplay, Sammie Libman and many more.

It`s A New Year - Oklahoma

I tried very hard in the last 3 months to take some time and figure out in what direction I wanted to be going in with the new year approaching. I enjoy writing. Sometimes it`s a melody and lyrics, sometimes it`s thoughts and ideas and other times it`s just to say what`s on my mind. I remember someone telling me that I was a Jack of all Trades but Master of None. I think I even got offended. He was right. I like to dabble. I like to try new things and start new projects. Some work, some don`t but I usually end up enjoying whatever experience I choose.

I missed writing my blog. Although I still enjoy writing about shows and the great talent in and around the Montreal area, I think this year I will see where is goes. Write what I feel. I was going to delete last year`s blog but then decided that would mean I was deleting all the great moments that I had. Why would I do that?

To start the year, I will be performing in the chorus and the ensemble in the Hudson Music Club`s production of Oklahoma.  I got the opportunity this year to see a lot of shows and I learned a lot but nothing compares to the reality of actually doing the show. Its' a non-profit production and on a volunteer basis. The amount of time, energy and hard work that goes into a production like this is ridiculous. One thing about the people in this show, they are extremely dedicated and passionate. I feel great that I can be part of something that is helping other people at the same time learn a great deal from experienced and talented individuals. It will only make me grow as an artist. The shows will be in the month of March at the Hudson Village Theatre but the tickets are already on sale at http://www.villagetheatre.ca/Show/139.aspx  I will be the red head in the back dressed in my 1900's farmers dress, you don't want to miss that..lol. It's for a great cause and it will be a lot of fun. More to come on the cast.

Later this year, I am looking forward to getting back into studio to hopefully finish the album. Again, it might only be a passion but it's my passion. I would really like to do some more shows in 2013, sometimes there is nothing like letting yourself go while performing live songs. What a rush!

I am looking forward to the New Year and albeit the ups and downs a year can bring, I am optimistic. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

In The Mood - A Time to Remember

On Wednesday night, I had the opportunity to see the opening show of ``In the Mood - A Time to Remember`` produced by The Hudson Music Company. Although it was a more intimate production than 42nd Street, it still had quite the impact. My dad, who was a DJ for more than 25 years installed in me a great love for music from the 40`s, 50`s and 60`s. It was great hearing the old times favorites such as ``Chattanooga Choo Choo`` and ``Boogy Woogy Bugle Boy``.

The story (Script by James Milvain) is about a WWII veteran named Charlie who reminisces about the war while playing some favorite songs on the jukebox. Produced by Andre Marchand and directed by Philippe Gobeille, the production was a heart whelming rendition of the life and music of the 1940`s.

Sophie Protopoulos was as great as she was in 42nd street, her enchanting voice and her ability to capture the audience makes her stand out in any production. Fred Gagnon and Mike Melino gave capturing solo performances enchanting the audience with their tenor voices. I always enjoy watching and hearing Gail Marchand perform, she has an ingenious way of making people laugh, definitely a highlight of the show. My favorite number goes to Alicia Rice with a soulful performance of a 1940`s gospel choir song. This woman blew me away with this deep intense performance that showed not only how great her voice was but how powerful a song can be when someone feels it deep within. I think all the vocal performances were absolutely astounding, another great production from The Hudson Music Company. A hand of applause to Sheila Engel Katz (Musical Director) and Jean Claude Olivier (Set Design). I`m looking forward to the next production!

Brasserie La Residence Fund Raiser

I headed down to Pierrefonds yesterday to help support the cure for breast cancer. Barb Graham was the organizer of the event and believe me, this woman is full of passion and determination to put an end to not only breast cancer but to all cancers. A breast cancer survivor, she worked really hard to put together a great BBQ filled with laughter and entertainment. Her dedication to the cause is relentless and her speech about the preventions and well as the hardship of cancer not only touched me but had an effect on most of the guests. Having a father that died of cancer and knowing others that are affected by it, her words hit home. It was wonderful to see people come together and help support such a great cause. A big hand of applause to all the comics: Heavy T, Richard Thomas Mullan, Doreen Merriman (Lady Dee), Mo Vee Vartanian, Linda Brazil, Avi Tanny and Elissa Dubinsky. By donating money and/or your time, everyone should feel rewarded that they participated in helping others fight this horrible disease.

PS: I am looking forward to next year, you can count on my hamburger being bought:)

Neil Diamond in Montreal

I ventured on Thursday night to see Neil Diamond at the Bell Centre.  I received free tickets at the last minute and albeit not knowing his music, I feel there is always something to learn and experience when seeing an artist live.  I consider him a legend in his own right.  Any artist that has entertained an audience for more than 40 years should receive a certain level of respect.  He had his first hit in 1966 and had sold more than 115 million records worldwide. If that alone does not grant him legend status, I don`t know what would. 

I have to admit that for once I felt like a kid.  Considering that his audience is fifty plus in age, I did feel like a spring chicken – lol.  The stage effects were impressive and the full piece band as well as the backup vocalists gave the show the depth it needed.  As per his vocals, they started off a little rough but I assume that had more to with the sound technicians than Neil himself.  Two or Three songs into the show, you could tell why he is the entertainer that so many love.  His confidence and charisma as well as his ability to captivate the audience are what set him apart from the rest.  You could see the appreciation from the smiling faces singing along to his music.

I do think that I would have appreciated the show a lot more if I had known more of his songs.  ``Girl You`ll Be a Woman Soon`` and ``Red Red Wine`` were amongst some of my favorites as well as the song ``You Don`t Bring Me Flowers``.  All in all, it was a relaxing and entertaining night.  A huge thanks to Claudia for the tickets, it was much appreciated.

Heavy T`s Comedy Competition

Being a performing artist is a lot harder than most people think, it`s not always easy to put yourself out there. Whether you are a singer, an actor or a comedian, the road is usually a rocky one, having the courage to follow your passion takes strength, dedication and persistence. Competitions are even harder as you are not only judged but you go up against other performing artists, it can be very intimidating. A big round of applause to all the comedians that performed at Heavy T`s Comedy Competition.

I had a really great time on Saturday at Café Domenica. The small place filled up to maximum capacity and the crowd was pleasant, friendly and having fun. It was the last round of 64 comedians that had participated since early 2012. Each comedian had 6 minutes to perform totalling 9 acts. I was really impressed at the quality of performances. A well deserved 1st Place went to Andrew Searles, 2nd Place to Dan Derkson and 3rd Place to Christopher Betts. Some of my favorites also included Steve Nash and Doreen Merriman but I honestly think that Paul Baluyot, Micheal Lifshitz, Colin O`Brien and Francois Tousignant all did a great job. The laughs just kept coming. 

It was a great job by all that organized the event.  Mike Costello made for a really good host while Paul Blanchette did a superb job on the sound and music (can`t wait to see you on stage one of these days). A big hug to Tony for inviting me and my friends, you really are a great guy and we all had a really nice night.

Pharmaprix`s Raise Money for Cancer

A quick post to thank everyone for coming out on Saturday night to Scotyz to help raise funds for my friend Jayne`s walk for cancer. I had an absolutely great time.  It was awesome seeing some old friends and enjoying great times with loved ones.  I plan to play a part next year or even walk if I can.  There is no better feeling than knowing that you are helping out for such a great cause.  Thanks again and we hope to see you next year. 

A NIGHT OUT - Hudson Music Club - 42nd Street

The Hudson Music Club is a non-profit company that produces musical entertainment to help charities within their district and surrounding districts.  It is absolutely amazing to see so many people come together and donate their time to support a cause, this year being Le Pont/ Bridging Food Bank.  Most people would be surprised at the amount of hours of rehearsals, preparation and direction you need to produce such great shows.  A big hand of applaud to all cast for all the hard work and time, it really showed this year with the production of 42nd Street.

The storyline based in the 1930`s revolves around the dream of making it big as an entertainer.  Peggy (lead role) is a young naive girl arriving from Allentown that finds herself conflicted with the harsh realities of the world of Broadway.  Making new friends amongst the cast of chorus girls and being sought after by Billy Lawlor (the lead male) leads her to a direct conflict with Dorothy Brock (the lead female).  With the ups and downs of trying to produce a show, Maggie and Bert (the writers) spend their time trying to satisfy Julien`s (director) demands of excellence.  What makes the storyline so wonderful is the incorporation of the tap routines (Choreography's by Amy Cooper). Not a popular style of dance these days but so worthwhile to watch and hear.  Filled with stories of love, laughter and triumph, you will enjoy every minute of this spell binding musical.

Sophie Protopoulos (Peggy) was terrific, she played the part with conviction and her tap skills and singing abilities only enhanced her performance.  Maggie Owen (Dorothy) was clearly a professional with her voice and acting abilities, she took over the stage whenever she arrived. Philippe Gobeille (Julian) was witty, funny and down right entertaining. Jordan Marchand`s (Billy) voice was sensational, what a pair of vocal chords. Gail Marchand, who did an extraordinary job on the costumes was hilarious while Mike Melino added a quarky side to the show with his character Bert .  Nadia Verrucci is a fantastic dancer and a great choice as Anytime Annie. All in all, the whole cast was exceptional. Cheers to the Director Corey Castle and the Musical Director Sheila Engel Katz as well as as the whole production team for such a great show.
      

The musical runs until March 31, 2012 at the Paul-Emile-Meloche Theatre in Vaudreuil.  Please do try and support the local artists especially when it`s for such a great cause.

Montreal`s St-Patrick`s Day Parade 2012

On Sunday I ventured out to celebrate the Montreal`s St-Patrick’s Day Parade. It was an absolutely fabulous day to be outdoors. The sun was shining; the crowd was in good spirits and the overall atmosphere was energetic and happy. I had the chance to meet a few new editions to the circle of friends I`d made over the years. It was great meeting Gabrielle, Samuel, Sakina as well as seeing my darlings, Joshua and Jesse. I truly love being around children (probably because I can give them back – lol).  I find there is nothing more beautiful than watching a child smile. Their anticipation is incredible to watch, the sheer joy they get from the excitement and entertainment is priceless. I was a little disappointed that the floats were not as spectacular as I remember but it did not seem to bother any of the kids, they seem enthralled by the marching bands, the parade of people and the cotton candy. I got to spend the day playing auntie and enjoying a pleasant afternoon soaking in the sun surrounded by wonderful friends and family, what more can you ask for?

Mamma Mia Musical in Montreal and Le Seingalt

I was a little sceptic when deciding to go and see the show Mamma Mia  http://www.mamma-mia.com . As I am only an avid Abba Fan and I really did not enjoy the movie, I was a little apprehensive about what the musical would be like as it has the same storyline.  I am really happy to say that I had a marvellous time.  You just can`t beat a live performance.  It was filled with comedy, great mise en scene and was composed of an outstanding team of performers. The vocal performance of Chloe Tucker (playing Sophie Sheridan) and Kaye Tuckerman (playing Donna Sheridan - the mother) blew me away, it`s rare that I get shivers. From a comedy stand point, without the performances of Alison Ewing (playing the part of Tanya) and Mary Callanan (playing Rosie), the show just would not have been the same.  They are some seriously funny ladies.  When a show can keep you enthralled from beginning to end, you can understand why it has been a hit for quite some time, well worth the $100.00 ticket sale.

If ever you do get a chance to see any show at Place des Arts www.laplacedesarts.com, I highly recommend dinning at Le Seingalt www.restaurantseingalt.com.  The food was mouth watering.  My crab cake was a rare treat and my filet mignon was cooked to perfection.  The service was great, not only was he pleasant, he was quick and efficient even with a full dining room.  The prices range anywhere from $20.00 to $30.00 a plate, not high fine dinning but it sure tasted like it.

Food for thought, did you know that Casanova's real name was Giovanni Casanova de Seingalt? Neither did I.

Calistoga Grill and Mother Jones Band

I decided this year that although I fully enjoy the solitude of writing music, life is too short to be isolated. As I have no plans to do any live shows until late next year, I figure it`s time to venture out and see what is happening locally in and around the Montreal area. My little bubble this past year has been great for my creativity but not so much for my interpersonal skills (lol). 2012 will be about getting out of my comfort zone to enjoy good company,great food and a whole lot of entertainment.

Thursday night I had the opportunity to attend an intimate performance by The Mother Jones Band http://www.facebook.com/#!/joeythesaxman at Calistoga Bar and Grill.  There is something mesmerizing about a band that plays with such conviction. The ambiance was warm and friendly and by the last set the crowd was cheering and dancing, fully enjoying the rhythm and blues. Combined with a little wine and supper, the band made it a really great dining experience.

The Calistoga Grill http://www.calistogagrill.ca/ is a charming little restaurant/bar terrace in Pointe Claire. Its cozy decor and comfortable atmosphere make you feel at ease instantly. I enjoyed my crab cakes as well as my Seafood Wrap but have to admit that I tried a Lychee Martini and it would not be on my list of top ten drinks (lol). They offer a variety of specials on food and drinks and I found the prices very reasonable. All in all, a very enjoyable evening. A big thanks to Wanda, Bryan, Leila and guests for passing by for drinks, there is no such thing as a great night without great company.

Again, I wish everyone wonderful holidays and I hope this year will be filled with love and laughter. We all deserve that.
