Bollywood Dance Fitness Class with Jhoomlay
As I am on a quest to get back into shape, I figure I would try something different. The term Bollywood was formed from two names, Bombay (the city now called Mumbai) and Hollywood. The dance originally started in Mumbai within the film industry and was based on Indian Classical Dance or Folk Dance from various parts of India. Today, it is a mixture of numerous styles which may include belly-dancing, kathak, western popular, modern jazz, etc.
I found the class, compared to Zumba Fitness, just as intense in regards to a good cardio work out. There is a lot of jumping and fast movements at a high pace, great if you are looking to shed some pounds. I admired the elegance of some of the movements and along side of the Indian music, you get a glimpse of the heritage of Indian dance. For me, I find the music stimulating probably due to the fact I took belly-dancing when I was young. It gives me an intense reaction to make me want to move my hips.
Diya Sen Pendyala is the founder of Jhoomlay (which means swing to the beat) Bollywood Dance Fitness. Not only is she a very talented lady, her smile and up beat personality make you feel at ease. Trying a new a class and not knowing anyone can be rather intimidating for some but she was pleasant, polite and made everyone feel welcomed.
This is a great beginner to intermediate fitness class that everyone can enjoy. Get out of your comfort zone and try something new.
You can find Jhoomlay on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/jhoomlay?pnref=lhc or on the website at http://www.jhoomlay.com/home.html. Classes are downtown.
